Common People
Over the past 18 months or so a group of us have been working to try and change the discussion around development and regeneration in our northern towns and cities. We feel the outcomes need to be better and the discussions around them broader - less tied to the marketing of particular companies or developments.
Through well attended events in Central and Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Tyneside (so far with wider reach planned) we’ve seen that there are others out there who agree. We’ve also picked up clearly that many more people want to help or get involved somehow, with many kind offers of help and support.
We want to avoid Common Good becoming a fixed group with limited capacity. To steal a phrase, in order ‘to change everything we need everyone’ so we’re inviting support in whatever form people feel able to provide.
It could be as simple as committing to joining us for more social ‘beers and ideas’ sessions in places where we are active, or as involved as organising and facilitating events. We also need financial contributions to help keep our events free to attend for all and motivated individuals to convene new groups in places we are yet to reach.
So we’re asking people to step forward across the north, setting out what they can do to help change things for the better for everyone - aligning with the movement and identifying as ‘Common People’.
